SHANON ATKINSON

Shanon Atkinson started athletics at an early age, competing for Duncan High School in Duncan, Oklahoma. He would be a three-time state champion and later be admitted into the Duncan High School Hall of Fame in 2020. After High School, Shanon Atkinson ran at the University of Oklahoma where he was a two-time All-American and is currently ranked on OU’s Top 10 All-Time Track Athletes list.

Shanon Atkinson then started his coaching career at the University of Oklahoma as an assistant coach from 1999-2005. At OU, he would coach two NCAA National Champions, nineteen collegiate All-Americans, and one Olympican in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.

Staying in Oklahoma, Atkinson continued to coach until he accepted a head boys and girls coach position at Southmoore High School from 2013-2023. There, Coach A would be named the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference (COAC) Coach of the Year and coach multiple state champions. In 2024, Coach Atkinson moved to Mustang to become the program coordinator at Mustang High School where he led the girl’s team to their first state championship title and was named the Milesplit Oklahoma Co-Coach of the Year and COAC Coach of the Year again.
